Carvoeiro is the quintessential picture postcard resort. The original village lies between two low hills and Carvoeiro beach stretches out between them. 30 years ago there were three bars in Carvoeiro. Now it is brimming with restaurants and bars. However, Carvoeiro has not lost its traditional rustic charm. You can still take a wander around the craft and pottery shops around the town.

Although the area around Carvoeiro has seen an increase of holiday home development over the past few decades, this has now stabilised and the area has now become firmly established as one of the Algarve's leading villa holiday destinations.

This area really has a glorious stretch of coastline with several striking beaches, superb golf courses and an abundance of villas with their private gardens and pools. Some of the most spectacular coastline in Europe lies between Armação de Pêra and the west coast.

Silves is a popular choice for those who want to live inland rather than on the coast. The area boasts a wide range of property and plenty of space to spread out amongst the citrus orchards, mixed farming countryside and wooded foothills. However, the beach is always just short drive away.

Further west along the coast on the east bank of the river Arade is the village of Ferragudo. In contrast to the bustling busy streets of Portimão, which is situated on the opposite bank of the river Arade, you can stroll around the quiet narrow streets of Ferragudo, taking in the relaxing atmosphere.
